Cardamom is also known to have the power to cast away accumulated kapha dosha from the stomach and lungs. Kapha, being composed of water and earth elements, likes to lodge itself in the form of mucus in these areas of the body, resulting in congestion. Cardamom helps to clear this accumulation providing a sense of clarity and lightness in the heart. Many in the East use cardamom to antidote the mucus forming qualities in milk and in coffee to antidote caffeine.
