Botanical name: Vitex Negundo
Nirgundi is an herb with numerous health benefits that is hard to compete with. Nirgundi is appreciated for a plethora of actions, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and pain-reducing activities. It is taken internally as a broncho-dilator for asthma, to dispel intestinal worms, to relieve arthritic pain and abdominal colic, to improve memory and intelligence and to reduce ama - waste of poor digestion, among many other uses. Externally, nirgundi is often used in oil preparations for arthritis, as a paste in instances of headache, swelling and joint pain and as a wash for wounds. Nigundi’s hot nature makes it excellent for vata and kapha conditions.
